Renovating or building a new home?

 Floored by flooring choices?

Maybe it’s time to walk the plank! Yes, that’s right – luxury vinyl planks (or LVP to those who are hip enough to know what’s underfoot) are taking the flooring world by storm. If you want to know what is up with what is down, LVP is the hottest flooring trend in 2022.

It’s true - the natural look of hardwood is hard to beat. Engineered hardwood is durable, versatile, and designed to last.

However, LVP has the authentic look of real wood – with knots, grain, and texture – coupled with strength and durability.

While companies like Shaw, COREtec and Mohawk rank as top choices in Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring brands, there’s a relative newcomer on the floor that tops the list for durability and stunning design.

Galvanite LVP took the flooring world by storm in 2018 as a huge contender in the LVP market and has grown into the heavyweight champion of the LVP world. Galvanite really packs a punch with each plank weighing about 14 ½ pounds – almost four times that of the average vinyl plank. And speaking of heavyweights, Galvanite flooring can easily take on your 317-pound, French-door refrigerator or a humongous kitchen island worthy of Chef Ramsey.

Featuring a 30-mil wear layer that is strong, tough and durable, it is perfect for both residential and commercial applications. If the clatter of high heels and furry feet are raising the roof in your home, you can toe the line on noise levels with Galvanite. Galvanite’s special backing features a sound-deadening backing that lessens foot traffic noise.

As elegant as it is durable, the Galvanite line of LVP flooring offers planks that are extra wide (9”) and extra long (72”) with a special antimicrobial backing.

The Galvanite line was designed with a “repeat pattern” of 10. Simply translated, that's every 20 boards before the repeat starts. The repeat pattern of LVP is normally “a film of 5” which equates to a repeat pattern every 10 boards.

Galvanite’s tag line is “It’s like wood if wood came with armour”. So, if your family tends to walk on the wild side – maybe you have a frisky Fido in your midst or a grandkid who is a “Dennis the Menace” knockoff – Galvanite Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring is a super flooring choice.

Check the boxes and decide if this flooring might be the perfect choice for your Kitchener-Waterloo home reno project. Knock on wood!

Richard's Warm-the-Cockles-of-Your-Heart Spiced Apple Cider
From the Kitchen of Richard Bradley

  • 2L (8 c) unsweetened apple cider in a slow-cooker (A lot of grocery stores in the KW area carry Wellesley Apple cider in 2L & 4L jugs, sweetened & unsweetened)
  • 1/8-tsp nutmeg (I just shake some in - a sizeable pinch)
  • 3 or 4 whole cloves
  • A couple of cinnamon sticks
  • A small orange cut into thin slices
Star anise? Never tried but sounds good... would add a licorice taste. Peppermint leaves might also be a nice addition. I hear ginger & turmeric are healthy too!

A few hours on low in a slow cooker (200F). In a rush, I've sometimes boiled, then simmered it on the stove for an hour instead.

Strain if you want (I rarely bother).

Can keep in the fridge for up to a week and then reheat.
